Tortilla Soup in Spanish Class

The students made tortilla soup today with their Spanish Teacher, Maestra MontaƱo. They reviewed the ingredients in Spanish, had a quiz after they cooked, then wrote a letter to their parents about how to make tortilla soup!

Thanksgiving Feast

One of my favorite days at Peninsula is the Thanksgiving Feast. Parents come together to make wonderfully yummy food for the students and staff. We dress up and hang out before the meal. Then, the kids play until it's time to head home. The students had fun making their beaded outfits. Even one of my older students who didn't want to participate enjoyed running around in his shirt with his classmates after it was all said and done :)

Making Native American Gear for Thanksgiving

Classroom 2 Gets Ready for Thanksgiving

Today, we made our Native American outfits for our Thanksgiving Feast. I got this great idea from our other teacher, Mrs. Wilson. I bought T-shirts from Walmart (sizes XL-XXXL), and purchased brown and tan cloth dye and washed the shirts in the dyes. I made a sample shirt for the kids before starting the project with them which was helpful. I also used a Youtube video that helped me learn how to cut the frills. We cut 6 inches of frills from the bottom and 2 1/2 inches of the sleeves. Students are still beading them! This project takes about 3 hours to complete. I'd suggest doing this over a course of 3 sessions (cutting, beading and painting) but we did it all in one day! Check out pinterest for cool pics of other types of shirts.
